City Council and DepartmentsElected Officials The elected and appointed officials who serve the City of Riceville are a dedicated group who put serving the public above all else. The mayor and council are elected to 4-year terms. Elections are held every 2 years, which allows the council terms to be staggered. We have no wards or precincts, so everyone runs at large.
City Council Committees City Council Committees are intended to enhance communication between the City Council and City staff at the early phase of the development of significant items affecting public policy questions. City Council Committee members develop and maintain a deeper level of knowledge on matters of a technical nature which might affect public policy in order to increase the positive exchange of information and discussions between City Council members, City staff, and the public.
AdministrationThe position of City Clerk is one of the most important jobs in Iowa municipal government. City Clerks must handle a wide range of city business, particularly in smaller communities such as Riceville. The Riceville City Council shall appoint by majority vote a City Clerk to serve for an indefinite term. The City Clerk also serves as the City Treasurer.
